KENWOOD AAN-0012 Application Note Amateur Radio Division Subject: TM-251/451A Repeater Operations Date: July 21, 1994 The TM-251/451A transceivers are capable of operating as a "Fixed Direction" repeater and as a "In Band" repeater. Operation: 1. Preset the desired operating frequencies for the VHF and UHF bands. 2. Turn menu function number 69 "ON". Fixed Direction Operations. During repeater operation any signal that is recieved on the Sub band that is strong enough to open the squelch wil be retransmitted on the Main band. For example a signal that is recieved on the UHF reciever of the TM-251 will be retransmitted on the VHF band. In Band Operation During repeater operation, any signal that is recieved on the Main band will be recorded by the DRS system, up to a maximum length of 16 seconds. After the signal drops out the contents of the DRS system will be retransmitted. Repeater Transmit Hold Time The transmitter can be adjusted to remain keyed for 500mS after the incoming signal drops out or can be adjusted to unkey immediately after the input ceases. This is selected using menu function 70. When the function is ON transmit is held for 500ms. Whne the function is OFF the transmitter drops immediately. Note: During repeater operation all decimal points in the display will be on, as a visual reminder wou are in a repeater mode. To cancel repeater operation turn menu function number 69 "OFF".
